Brad Cunningham — AKA Cunning Brad — brings vocals, guitar, harmonica, songwriting experience and a huge live personality into Vabond.
Brad is a South African multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist, harmonica player and entertainer. His independent work as Cunning Brad has built a reputation around gutsy vocals, melodic songwriting, audience interaction and high-energy live performance.
His first guitar was famously rescued from a school dustbin and glued back together. From there, Brad developed a career spanning original albums, tribute productions, solo performances, full-band shows, television, radio, festivals, weddings, corporate events and private functions.
Within Vabond, Brad contributes guitars, vocals and harmonica. Together with Phillip Merensky, he forms part of Vabond’s dual-vocal identity, giving the band greater flexibility in harmonies, arrangements and songwriting. In 2026 Brad also took lead vocals on Vabond’s interpretation of Rodriguez’s The Establishment Blues.
Brad’s songwriting approach blends old-school and modern rock with folk, ballad, blues and other influences. His own words sum it up best: he writes from the heart and treats music as his love made audible.
